Our glass and pottery classes

Below you can find all the glass, ceramic and pottery classes, courses and workshops that we provide.

We have a maximum number of 8 people on our glass fusing, slumping and moulding classes, also on our pottery courses.

All other glass and pottery workshops, (some of which are on a 'drop in' basis) we have a maximum of 12 people.

Glass Fusing Classes

Great for
Beginners

A glass class for the beginner to the subject of glass fusing. We'll teach you glass type, cutting, frits and stringers, inclusions, decorating techniques, kilns and firing cycles.

Glass Moulding Classes

Great for
Beginners

Learn the techniques required to start moulding glass. Learn about glass types, cutting, frits and stringers, inclusions, decorating techniques, crushing glass the safe way, making the mould, kilns and firing cycles. Book a place. Half day, full day or 2 day courses available.

Pottery Classes

Great for
Beginners

Pottery course which will teach you the basics of working with clay. Wheel thrown, hand building, coiling, slab built pottery techniques. Drying, firing and glazing. A great introduction to pottery and great fun too. Book a place. Half day, full day or 2 day courses available.

A short introduction to wheel thrown pottery. We’ll show you the basics, how to centre clay on the wheel and the rest is down to you. Book a place. Runs for an hour.

Ceramic painting on a variety of items. Just paint with acrylic and it’s ready to take away in 45mins (once it's all dry).

Engrave a glass

Easy & Fun for
Adults & Children

Choose from a huge range of stencils to decorate a tumbler, wine, champagne, high ball, tankard or jam jar (to make a night light). ‘Sand carve’ over the stencils and frost the glass. It’s that easy.

Window Art

Workshop for
Children

Using gel paints and stencils to copy from. Once dried, can be peeled off and applied to a window to create beautiful art which are easily removed and reusable. Book a place.

Glass Engraving Classes

Using the
Sand carving technique

Engrave glass and glassware using abrasive and a blast cabinet. We'll teach you glass preparation, stencil making and application, carving techniques and post engraving decoration.

Raku Pottery Classes

Glazing and
Firing

The ancient art of Raku pottery. We'll show you how to glaze and reduction fire pottery in the style of raku. Our Raku pottery class is a great workshop to add to any of our other classes and courses. Book a place. Half day, full day or as an add-on to one of our other courses.

Clay Workshop

Great for
Kids

Learn how to build pots using coil, pinch and slab methods. Just let them have fun.

Mug Painting

A great one for
the Kids

No not face painting! Ceramic painting on mugs, tiles, plates, bowls etc. Once complete just leave it with us for 30mins, we’ll fire it and make it dishwasher safe. Book a place. Take as long as you wish.

Encaustic Art

Hot Wax
Art

It’s great, no need to be creative at all for this one. Wax, an electric iron and paper are all that’s needed (it's OK we supply them). Melt the wax on the iron, glide and dab your way across the paper and create a masterpiece. Book a place. Spend as long with us as you want.

Ceramic Button Workshops

We show you
How!

A workshop on which we show you all the steps required to make, fire and glaze you own ceramic buttons. They're great for livening up clothes, on greetings cards and making funky jewelry. Book a place. Two 2 hour sessions required.

Based in Alston, Cumbria, opposite the South Tynedale Railway and Hub Museum, the highest market town in England.

15 miles from Hadrian’s wall and set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It's a great area to visit and being not far from the Lake district there's plenty to see and do.

Our workshops, facilities and what's included.

Well lit, warm, dry and well equipped. But most importantly a safe environment for you to learn and enjoy your time with us. We have wheel chair access and a disabled toilet too. We want you to feel at ease, have fun and a great time so we limit places on our courses.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - Exactly as it says on the tin. We aim our glass classes and pottery courses at the beginner. We hope this makes you fell more at ease it you're just starting out.

If you're spending a few days with us, maybe over a weekend, we can provide accommodation for you (at extra cost). Just let us know when you book if this is required.

Just one more thing...
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult whilst in the workshop.

On the day

Everything you require to do our classes is provided. We have tea and coffee making facilities. A light lunch is provided on our 1 & 2 day courses or you can bring your own (we have cooking facilities) and plenty of sink space for washing up too.

Due to health and safety we do not allow alcohol in the workshop or to be consumed during our classes (this includes during lunch break), there's plenty of time after to enjoy a glass of wine or two.
